Opening Day Lines at Mt. Baker by John Wells. November 20, 2010 Mt. Baker Opened with a 50 inch base and bluebird sky's. Compared to Jackson Hole's historical "wall to wall" opening and last year's "Deepest Opening Day in Mt. Baker history," this years opener wasn't the deepest but definetly the coldest, lightest, and most stable apron of white this early in November.
With 3-8" covering the entire Pacific Northwest from Portland to Bellingham the goods were dry and ample giving new meaning to early season pow! We all know the feeling of getting that first favorite line/run under your belt, knowing that you are the first to arc a turn where many will follow. It can determine the fate of your season for better or worse, and makes all those sweaty summer moments worth while.
Riders: John Wells, Paul Kimbrough, Gramski, Sam Giffin, and Carl Wollschlager.
Thanks goes out to Mt. Baker and all my sponsors: Fatypus Skis, GoPro Cameras, Bellingham Fit Adventure, and Eddie Bauer Outerwear.
