Aspen/Snowmass, Colo. – Sustainability leaders, passionate locals and families gathered at the base of Aspen Mountain May 5 for “Climate Impacts Day,” an international event organized by urging citizens to “connect the dots” between climate change and extreme weather events.

The Aspen event was the main Colorado event for and featured speeches from the likes of Auden Schendler, VP of Sustainability for Aspen Skiing Company; Mick Ireland, the Mayor of Aspen; 11-year-old Xiuhtezcatl Martinez of the Earth Guardians out of Boulder, Colo. and more.

The day featured an art project, live music, a civil on-hill protest to symbolize snow and also featured a snowless ski race to demonstrate what skiing could become someday if our society doesn’t take action to reverse global warning.

At an estimated 1,000 events in over 100 countries around the world, people joined this weekend for the first ever Climate Impacts Day, a global event designed to “connect the dots” between climate impacts, such as extreme weather events, and the broader climate crisis. Beyond reducing its own carbon footprint, Aspen Skiing Company has been lobbying for years now to create policy mechanisms to both address climate change and its own impacts.
