I have never lived the ski bum life. The closest I came to it was in college when I took "guitar" for a January term and went skiing every day that I could find a ride to the mountain. However, my family has made the choice to make our home in the mountains. We live closer to two ski areas than to work. Although I do sometimes dream of what it would be like to experience total immersion in the dirtbag lifestyle, my short but intense adventures, often in the fading light of the day before I return to my kids for the evening, keep me in balance. My son has started skinning with me on a few daylight adventures. Balance keeps shifting for the better. Here is to finding balance, no matter how or when you find it.
