Chile's El Colorado ski resort announced this afternoon they will be the first to open for the 2017 ski season, setting their opening day for this Friday, May 19th. Over 24 inches of new snow is expected between tonight and opening day, potentially bringing the weekly total to over 4 feet. Photo tour on TGR from last weeks storm.

El Colorado, expected to open 80% of their terrain this weekend, is the closest major ski area to Chile's international airport and capital city Santiago. The cone shaped resort hosts one of South America's largest parks and some of Chile's best out of bounds terrain.
